The Borivali police has formed two teams to nab the remaining members of the ‘chaddhi baniyan’ gang, of which four were arrested on February 8.

The Borivali police has formed two teams to nab the remaining members of the ‘chaddhi baniyan’ gang, of which four were arrested on February 8. While one police team has been sent to Osmanabad, the native place of the arrested accused, another team is searching for the absconders in the outskirts of the city as the police suspects that they are hiding in the Vasai – Virar areas that are filled with wild grass.

Earlier on Monday four members of the infamous gang were arrested in the early hours of in an encounter with the police following an hours-long siege in Shimpoli area of Borivali west. However, at least three other members of the gang managed to escape.

According to police sources, the arrested accused are not cooperating in the investigation. They have not confessed to any of their alleged crimes yet, a source said. As of now, the police has not seized any valuable that was robbed by these dacoits, as they told officials that the absconding gang members have all the loot. So, now officials are checking the police records to know the exact numbers of crimes committed by the gang.

The gang is named ‘chaddi baniyan’ gang because its members attack wearing only underclothes and a mask on their faces. The gang attempts to rob the societies that don’t have CCTV cameras or security guards. As the arrested accused belong to Osmanabad, officials are also keeping the Osmanabad police in the loop.
