Speeding bike crashes near Chembur; rider spot dead

A 19-year-old boy died in an accident near Chembur on Tuesday after he lost control of his bike and skidded near Chembur on Tuesday. He died on the spot said the Tilak Nagar police.

According police officials, the deceased identified as Sunil Khetani, resident of Vashi was riding the bike while his friend and owner of the bike, Anish Sole (19) was riding pillion. They were on their way home from fitness training in Santa Cruz.

PSI Bharat Waghe of Tilak Nagar police station said, “Both the youngsters are resident of Vashi and completing their graduation in a private college in Vashi. They used to travel from Vashi to Santa Cruz on Anish’s bike to attend their fitness classes from 10 am to 1.30 pm every day.”

Senior PI Vijay Khaire said, “Sunil didn’t have a driving licence so Anish was insisting him to get down from the bike but Sunil paid no heed, instead, kept riding at high speed. On approaching a speed breaker near SCLR Bridge near at Chembur Tilak nagar area, the rider lost control and the bike skidded,” he said, further adding, “On being informed, we took him to the hospital where on arrival, Sunil was declared dead.” Anish has been admitted with few injuries.

According to a police official, “Sunil’s friends would often tease him for not being able to ride a bike. So he wanted to prove them wrong. Anish tried to dissuade him from riding at a high speed, but it fell on deaf ears.”

The police has registered a case against the deceased under section of IPC 304 A, 279, 338.
