The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the Andheri encounter case in which a suspected gangster Sandeep Gadoli was killed by the Gurgaon police has requested a local court to issue non-bailable warrant against the policemen involved.

The court has adjourned hearing on the arguments till Friday. Gadoli’s borther Kuldeep Singh’s lawyer Tanveer Nizam said that the public prosecutor on behalf of SIT on Monday orally requested the chief metropolitan magistrate to issue a arrest warrant against the policemen involved in the fake encounter because they were not cooperating with the investigation and the SIT wanted to investigate the matter further.

According to advocate Tanveer, the court was informed that the suspected policemen were called by the SIT but none appeared and hence, they want to take them into custody to investigate the case.

The public prosecutor requested the court to issue a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the policemen. However, the magistrate sought for supporting documents related to the case like the FIR, among others and posted this application for hearing on May 27.

Earlier, Gadoli’s brother through advocate Mr Nizam had filed an application before the court seeking registration of a separate FIR against the policemen because the current FIR was registered against his deceased brother. However, the court had rejected this application.

Gadoli was shot dead by the Gurgaon police in an alleged shootout in Hotel Airport Metro, on February 7 this year. PSI Pradhuman Yadav who led the team of police that shot dead Gadoli has alleged that Gadoli had fired at them and hence, in retaliation they opened fire at him and he died of bullet injuries.

Family members of the deceased have claimed that the encounter was staged and they have also contended that the encounter was carried out at the behest of Gadoli’s business rival and Binder Gujjar, a politician from Gurgaon.
