The Railway Police Force (RPF) has directed its entire staff on the field to take videos of commuters who are performing stunts in running trains.

The Railway Police Force (RPF) has directed its entire staff on the field to take videos of commuters who are performing stunts in running trains. A few of them will be given cameras, but most of the officers will be taking it via their own mobile. The RPF will then use the footage to catch the person and also use it as evidence against him.

The railways has found it difficult to nab the young stunt performers as they are always committing the crime when the train has picked up speed and hence, are difficult to chase down. “We will see to it that with the videos and images these miscreants will be tracked down and of course the areas in which they are seen more often, we will ensure it is highly patrolled. With these images at our disposal, we will be able to track, monitor and use CCTV footage in areas where the footage is taken as well,” said Western Railway’s (WR) senior divisional security commissioner, Anand Vijay Jha.

The RPF has been slightly more successful in rooftop travelling and had caught 25,045 people in 2015 and have already caught 12,061 until May this year.

“We have been seeing a good amount of detection of rooftop travelling; in fact we have collected a fine of almost Rs 4 lakh,” Mr Jha further said.

The RPF is also mulling over creating a register with the faces and if possible, names of those who perform stunts at sensitive post where such incidents are frequent.
