The proceedings in the legislative council were disrupted for the second consecutive day on Tuesday over the issue of allegations of corruption against several state ministers.

The proceedings in the legislative council were disrupted for the second consecutive day on Tuesday over the issue of allegations of corruption against several state ministers. In fact, on the second day no regular business was conducted in the house before it was adjourned for the day amidst chaos and slogan shouting by the Opposition. The Opposition has said that it will not allow the house to function unless the government sets up an inquiry committee of sitting high court judge under the commission of inquiry act to probe all the allegations against ministers.

A special sitting took place in the legislative council from 10 am to 11.50 am in which six calling attention motions from Monday’s business were discussed. However, as soon as the house assembled for regular business on Tuesday at 12.30 pm, members of NCP and Congress entered the Well demanding inquiry against ministers.

The Opposition has levelled allegations against as many as 20 ministers. However, the government has dismissed all the allegations calling them baseless and politically motivated. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, while replying to the same issue in the legislative Assembly, said, “The opposition has tried to drag 20 ministers because our government has completed 20 months. It sounds appealing when the Opposition says “20 ministers in 20 months”. However, the Opposition claimed the CM was not taking the “evidence” submitted by them seriously, which had emboldened the “corrupt ministers”.

After the session was adjourned for the day, the leader of Opposition in the house Dhananjay Munde said, “We have submitted all the proofs to support our accusations of corruption. However, the CM has given clean chits to all ministers. We have decided not to allow any business in the house till the government announces inquiry into the allegations under the commission of inquiry act.”

Some of the prominent ministers who have been targeted by the Opposition include Pankaja Munde, Vinod Tawde, Girish Bapat, Dr Deepak Sawant and Ravindra Waikar.
