The State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) is still struggling to crack the code words used in the three emails exchanged between Virendra Tawade and Sarang Akolkar, who are accused in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case. Tawade, who is the alleged mastermind behind the crime, was arrested 14 days ago when CBI officials found a few suspicious emails. The CBI had sent the emails to decode them on June 13.

The CBI had sent all the mobile phones belonging to Tawade along with the emails for forensic analysis. Sources said, “Some emails are readable, in which they had talked about some conspiracy like procuring weapons, starting a weapon manufacturing unit and formation of a 15,000-strong army against anti-Hindu forces.”

But in three other emails, they have used special fonts, which CBI officials had sent to forensic laboratory to decipher.

Tawade had been using as many as eight email accounts, of which three were used to contact Akolkar, while most of the other data on this had been erased. Tawade was recently arrested in connection with the murder of rationalist Dabholkar. Tawade is allegedly said to be a conspirator in not just Dabholkar’s murder but also the murders of two other rationalists, Govind Pansare and M.M. Kalburgi.

Tawade is a member of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, an offshoot of the pro-Hindutva outfit Sanatan Sanstha. CBI officials have alleged that Tawade had clearly mentioned his dislike for Dabholkar in a public function in Kolhapur in 2004. Dabholkar was shot dead in 2013. Tawade is the first person to be arrested in the said case after it was transferred to the CBI.
