Mega rail blocks in the offing

Commuters should brace themselves for service disruptions since the new division railway manager, Ravindra Goyal, has said that — in order to fast-track pending work between the fifth and sixth lines between Diva and Thane — there will be four major mega-blocks in the section.

These blocks will be spread out over the next few months, said Mr Goyal.

These blocks are a significant step, considering that Union minister Suresh Prabhu transferred Mr Goyal’s predecessor, Amitabh Ojha, after a five-hour rail roko at Badlapur left CR services paralysed on August 13.

“We will be undertaking big blocks spread out over a few months in order to speed up work on the fifth and sixth lines. We all know that we cannot run more services after a point, and will require infrastructure inputs to do so. Hence, we are working with the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation to fast-track the work as much as we can,” Mr Goyal told reporters.
