A man had to pay with his life just because he had intervened in a quarrel between his sister and her husband.

The husband, identified as Jakir Husain (35), stabbed his brother-in-law, also slitting his throat in a fit of rage in Ghatkopar Sunday night. Husain is absconding.

The Pant Nagar police has registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and is on the lookout for Husain.

The Pant Nagar police said that from what it had learnt through enquiries, Husain, who is a resident of Kamgar Nagar, would quarrel daily with his wife.

The couple got married nine years ago and has three children, the police said.

On Sunday, as the quarrel between the duo got ugly, Tanwir Kamruddin Shaikh (30), Husain’s brother-in-law stepped in, in an effort to broker peace between the two.

While trying to stop the quarrel, Shaikh also tried to shield his sister, who was being beaten mercilessly by her husband.

“Husain was livid when his brother-in-law interfered in the fight, and in a state of fury, he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Shaikh four to five times, and also slit his throat. He then fled the house. Shaikh was immediately taken to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. His sister registered a complaint with us and we are on the lookout for Husain,” said a police official.
