The Mumbai police will deploy at least 617 personnel and 130 officers as part of its security arrangements at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) venue for the ‘Make in India’ week to be held in the city from February 13 to 18.

The Make In India programmes will be held across three different venues across the city. The main exhibition hall of the event will be at BKC. “We have ensured that access control is maintained at the venue with all the entry points guarded. The main challenge will be the BKC ground, where stalls will be set up by foreign countries and will also be visited by international delegates, union ministers and heads of participating countries,” said a police official.

For the other venues at Girgaum Chowpatty, Turf Club and Gateway of India, some 192 officers and 1,837 constables will be deployed, said a police official. At Girgaum chowpatty and Gateway of India, security will be deployed at night also, he said.

“We have a total of 192 officers and 1,837 constables who will be deployed at Girgaum Chowpatty, Turf Club and Gateway of India. We will also have 15 QRT (Quick Response Team), 11 companies of SRPF, six combat teams and two delta teams for these venues. They will all have doorframe metal detectors and also hand-held metal detectors at the entry gates for the exhibition centre. Every single person will be screened and an identity card is a must to gain entry into the halls,” said PRO and DCP of crime Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The police has also announced that no baggage would be allowed inside the exhibition hall. In addition to the Mumbai police, two platoons of the QRT, two companies of SRPF and three companies of Combat and Delta forces will be spread inside and outside in the grounds to oversee the security.
