The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results declared online by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Wednesday saw the overall pass percentage of 86.6

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results declared online by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Wednesday saw the overall pass percentage of 86.6 per cent slide by almost five per cent as compared to last year’s 91.26 per cent. The science stream, with a pass percentage of 93.16, had the best showing, followed by the commerce stream 89.1 per cent and arts stream 78.11 per cent. Girls once again outshone the boys by securing a 90.50 pass percentage to the 83.46 per cent by the boys.

According to board officials, the division-wise results saw Konkan division secure a pass percentage of 93.29, which is the highest among all the nine divisions with Nashik division languishing at the bottom with 83.99 per cent.

The sterling performance by Mumbai division students was insufficient and earned the city the seventh spot with a pass percentage of 86.08. Unlike last year wherein four divisions had breached the 90 per cent mark, this year only the Konkan division got the enviable distinction.

While the board has discontinued announcing individual toppers, the results saw girls turn in an excellent show. The 5,88,362 girls who appeared for the exams saw 5,32,482 girls succeed with a 90.50 pass percentage. On the other hand, out of the 7,31,392 boys who appeared under all streams, only 6,10,400 were successful with a pass percentage of 83.46.

The board official further informed that the number of copy cases detected this year had risen over last year. “While there were 554 cases reported last year, this year the number rose to 729 cases with Aurangabad division registering the highest number of cases at 272,” said Gangadhar Mhamane, chairman MSBSHSE, Pune.

Though the results have been declared online for now, he said the hard copy of the marksheets would be distributed to the students from their respective colleges/schools on June 3.
