After both the island city and the suburbs of Mumbai received torrential rainfall on Thursday night and Friday, the city experienced severe water logging at 28 spots across Mumbai.

Of these, nine spots are located in the city, four in the eastern suburbs and 15 in the western suburbs. The city experienced a total of about 110 mm of rainfall spanning both days, with the Colaba station registering 87 mm of rainfall and the Santacruz station registering a total of 134 mm of rainfall.

Of the 28 water-logged spots, traffic was greatly affected at four spots. These are the Gandhi Market area, Pratiksha Nagar area in Sion, Road Number 24 in Sion, and J.M. Rathod Road.

Deputy municipal commissioner (general administration) Sudhir Naik said, “Traffic diversions took place at these four spots because the rainfall there exceeded 100 mm within six hours. Despite such a dire situation, the traffic diversions happened only for half an hour, between 7.45 am and 8.15 am. Moreover, traffic was restored to normalcy by 10.50 am.”

The total rainfall exceeded 100 mm in over 15 places in Mumbai. These include areas in C ward of South Mumbai, F North ward in Matunga, and Wadala in the island city, and Andheri, Borivli, Chincholi, Dahisar, Goregaon, Kandivli, Marol and Malwani in the western suburbs and S ward in the eastern suburbs.

Meanwhile, as per the Met department’s predictions, Mumbai can expect moderate to heavy rainfall in select pockets in the city over the next 24 hours.
