It has come to light that the former top-level executive at online shopping portal Naaptol.com, who was arrested on Friday in a data theft case, had formed web-designing firm Expert Thought in his wife’s name. He had allegedly also involved Viral Technologies in the sale of Naaptol.com’s source code, as he did not want to draw attention to himself. The cyber crime cell of Navi Mumbai is now searching for four other accused who were also employed by Naaptol.

Naaptol.com website’s technical head has filed a complaint with the Rabale police against the director of the Viral Technologies Pvt Ltd and CEO of Expert Thought for allegedly copying the source code of the portal’s website because of which it had faced losses of Rs 100 crore. After preliminary investigations, the cyber crime cell arrested the duo.

A source said that the main accused in the case, Suraj Singh, who was assistant vice-president at Naaptol, had some personal and professional issues with the company and its employees. “Therefore, he left the company and founded his own firm in a partnership. He made his wife a partner of Expert Thought and proceeded to sell the source code of Naaptol. But to keep his identity a secret, he involved Viral Technologies as a mediator and sealed the deal,” they said.

Expert Thought had allegedly used the same source code for making websites for the websites Best Deal TV and Big Deal TV, which are owned by actor Akshay Kumar and Raj Kundra, entrepreneur and husband of actor Shilpa Shetty.

Sources have claimed that three other accused who were also working with Singh were also involved in the case. “The three accused were working with Naaptol’s sister company NM Soft. They started freelancing with Singh. But all of them have vanished. The police can use them as witnesses against the main accused.”

Speaking on the case, a police official said, “We have made a team to find out the four other absconding accused. We will arrest them soon. There is no celebrity involved in the case.”
