Amidst the controversy over wrestler Narsingh Yadav’s positive result on a dope test, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has sought support from the Centre so that the wrestler can participate in the Olympics.

The CM has written a letter to the Centre requesting “justice” for Yadav who tested positive for a banned substance barely 10 days before the start of the Olympics. This has cast a doubt on his participation in the Rio Games. “I have written a letter to the Centre to ensure that justice is done with Narsingh Yadav. There is a perception of foul play in the whole case,” CM said in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil raised the issue and alleged that the wrestler has been implicated deliberately in the doping controversy. The state government should come out in his support and back him in the situation. “Yadav is son of Maharashtra and the state government should ensure that he gets justice,” Mr Vikhe Patil said. “Not only Narsingh but the Wrestling Federation of India has also expressed foul play in this. In this situation, the state should pursue the matter with the Centre and help the wrestler,” he said.
