The CID cybercrime cell has summoned actor Kangana Ranaut to record her statement within a week, following an FIR filed against her by actor Hrithik Roshan in the BKC cyber cell. However, Kangana’s advocate Rizwan Siddiquee has termed the summons as “illegal”.

In his reply to the police notice, advocate Siddiquee said, “No police officer can summon my client Kangana Ranaut or her sister, Ms Rangoli, to any police station to record their statements as witness under Section 160 of the CrPC.”

The Ranaut sisters were summoned after Hrithik, in his FIR filed last Friday, named Kangana as the person who had been exchanging emails with his alleged impostor. To this, advocate Siddiquee issued a statement saying that earlier, Kangana was shown to be a victim as per Hrithik’s claims and Kangana had herself willingly expressed desire to cooperate with the officials.

Sources from cyber cell police station said that the FIR has been filed under Section 66 (C, D) of the IT Act and Section 419 of IPC. They said that they have attached Hrithik’s statement in the FIR. Thousands of mails have been exchanged between Kangana and the said email id. However, when The Asian Age approached Cyber Cell deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Rajkumar, he refused to comment on the issue.

Replying to the summons, advocate Siddiquee, said, “Kangana has duly reserved her rights to file an appropriate criminal complaint against Hrithik and his associates for hacking two of her email accounts, which includes the email from which Hrithik admittedly claims to have personally received about 1,439 emails from my client on his correct email id as well as the email from which my client was communicating with the alleged impostor.”

“Hrithik claimed that he did not know my client socially at all. He also inter alia claimed that he was receiving 50 emails a day from my client. He further specifically claimed that my client was using his name to gain publicity,” the statement said.

The Advocate further said, “These acts of deviating media attention by filing a belated FIR after about 2 years against a so-called impostor pursuant to receipt of my notice is another unintelligent attempt. Things were started by Hrithik and he should come forward and end it in a proper manner.”

Earlier, Hrithik had approached the BKC cyber cell to complain about someone who had been impersonating him to interact with a fan. Following this, a FIR was registered against unknown persons for allegedly creating a fake email id in the actor’s name and using it to chat with his fans.

Recently, Hrithik and Kangana sent legal notices to each other, and Kangana revealed that she was corresponding with Hrithik through mails. However, Hrithik disproved this and said the email id was not created by him. The actor later re-approached police and urged them to probe the case.
