Amaruddin Mahadik (50) from Kalina, Santa Cruz, who was suffering from gangrene and liver failure, died at KEM Hospital on Friday night. A relative of the deceased, however, claimed that it took five hours of running around for the family to get Amaruddin admitted even after which, no proper treatment was given which is why he lost his life.

Amaruddin’s son, Tausif Mahadik, said, “I came to KEM hospital on Thursday at 2am as my father was feeling uneasy. After going to the emergency ward, I was guided by Dr Abhishek and his colleague to the surgical ward to get his sonography done. After doing all this, Dr Pranali Khedkar again recommended that I go to the emergency ward. We lost two precious hours in fulfilling all these procedures. Again I was sent to the surgical ward and they gave my father medicine at 6.30 and admitted him at 7.”

“After admission, I was again asked to get his ECG done. Meanwhile, I kept asking doctors about the status but no one gave me a clear picture. Then I asked Dr Yash Sinha, and Dr Abhishek Salklecha, who was sitting there, but nobody gave me answers despite my asking a number of questions. And at 10 am, I lost my father. After his demise, doctors started putting him on saline and medicines. Dr Sinha even misplaced my dad’s papers,” claimed Tausif.

Meanwhile, Dr Avinash Supe, dean of KEM Hospital, told The Asian Age, “I will definitely conduct an inquiry into this. There was lapse and miscommunication. Due to overload, doctors are working 24x7 because of which some kind of miscommunication might have taken place. My team will issue memo to the doctors who are guilty. We have given the treatment that was required.”

Tausif’s uncle, Abdul Karim Mahadik, said, “Some money was kept in my brother’s pocket and a few papers as well. All that got lost after his body was taken to the mortuary. When we asked the nurses and ward boys, they replied arrogantly. We will take this further and file a police complaint.” When Mr Supe was asked about money and documents having been lost, he said, “I will get the CCTV footage checked. If such irregularities have happened, I will suspend the person responsible.”
