The Bhiwandi police has arrested three persons, including a woman from Andheri, in a case related to the alleged rape of a 15-year-old minor schoolgirl who was brought to Mumbai after she was lured with the promise of a visit to the city’s iconic Marine Drive and then abducted.

One of the three arrested accused, Ashfaque Nisar Ahemad Shaikh (21), had allegedly befriended the minor on social networking site Facebook, lured her into coming to Mumbai and raped her. The accused worked for a prostitution syndicate and had sold the girl to a customer before she was rescued from an Andheri flat by a Bhiwandi police team. According to police officers, the arrested accused are Shaikh, Irshad Ansari and Sania Shaikh, a member of the syndicate.

A Bhiwandi police source said, “Her father didn’t allow her to go out of Bhiwandi, but she wanted to visit Marine Drive where her friends had gone. The girl shared her desire to visit Marine Drive while chatting with Ashfaque on Facebook.” He added, “Then Ashfaque brought a car on August 17 and met her near her school, after which he took her to Mumbai. Ashfaque showed her various places in Mumbai, after which he took her to his friend’s house in Andheri, where he allegedly raped her. He had been raping her over a few days.” The police source added, “Meanwhile, her father registered a kidnapping complaint in the police station and we started searching her.”

Investigating officer D. Surya told The Asian Age, “We collected her mobile call details on which we have found Ashfaque’s number. We traced him to Andheri and laid a trap. On raiding his friend’s flat, we got hold of Sania and Irshad.”
