Mumbai: The Bandra reclamation area is facing the problem of illegal dumping of debris despite a Supreme Court order limiting disposal of debris to specified locations, an NGO has said.

Watchdog Foundation, a non-profit organization, has written to the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that around one acre of land in the Bandra reclamation area behind Rang Sharad Hotel has been filled with discarded debris.

“Despite the Supreme Court order, there are instances where illegal dumping of construction debris is happening on a large scale basis in Mumbai. It has been brought to our notice that there is huge construction debris pile up happening day in day out behind Rang Sharda Hotel at Bandra Reclamation, Bandra (West), Mumbai. The H/West Ward Office is a mute spectator to all these activities,” the letter said.

The NGO alleged that a comparison of satellite images from 2017 and 2018 shows that there has been an accumulation of debris over the year.
