Mumbai:The suburban services of Central Railway (CR) were badly affected on Saturday owing to the derailment of a local train’s coach at the Thane-end exit of the Kalwa carshed around 6.30 am. The derailment caused hardship to railwaymen too as the pathway of the carshed was blocked at Thane end, forcing CR to pull out the trains from the Kalyan end, said a senior railway official.

Commuters complained that the trains were crawling between Thane and Nahur in the morning and they were delayed by up to 40 minutes. The CR has ordered an internal probe into the derailment.

Ghatkopar-bound passenger Atul said that his CSTM-bound train that was expected to arrive at 6.53 am at Thane station, arrived at 7.20 am. The train was crawling betwe-en Thane and Mulund. It also halted at Nahur for more than five minutes. The train finally reached Ghatkopar at 7.50 am.

Amit Kumar, who stays at Ambernath, said, “The 8.10 am CSMT-bound tra-in arrived at Ambernath at 8.30 am. I reached Tha-ne by 9 am.”

A passenger at Ghatkopar said the Up CSMT fast local train, which was expected to arrive at 10.34 am, did not arrive even after 11 am and there was too much crowding on the platform.

The chief public relations officer of CR, Sunil Udasi, said, “The train coach was rerailed by 8.30 am.”
