MUMBAI: A mock drill will be organised to manage crowds better during the monsoon at Dadar, Parel, Currey Road and Chinchpokli on Wednesday. The CR officials said the exercise is part of the training imparted to Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and commercial staff to manage crowds during the monsoon.

The move comes in the wake of a stampede at the Elphinstone Road station in September where 23 persons lost their lives.

A senior CR officer said that commercial in-charge of stations will monitor CCTV footage during the monsoon. “The RPF personnel will ensure that the passengers who are taking shelter on platform during the rains do not block the station's entry and exit points,” an official said.

He added, “Lady ticket checkers will also be present at to guide female passengers,  on using newly constructed bridges at  stations.”

Additional divisional railway manager Vidyadhar Malegaonkar said, “We have organised a mock drill to sensitise our frontline staff regarding crowd management at certain identified railway stations on Wednesday.”
