Mumbai: Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has questioned Maharashtra government’s claims that the state received Rs 12 lakh crore investment. Mr Chavan said contrary to the state claim of attracting Rs 4 lakh crore investment, only Rs 6000 crore investment has been done. Also, only 42,000 youths have received the jobs under ‘Make in Maharashtra’ initiative he said.

The statement by Mr Chavan came after state government announced that it signed MoUs worth Rs 12 lakh crore in the Magnetic Maharashtra programme that ended on Tuesday. “The information I received from the industries department is different than the CM’s claims. In Make in India, 14,000 MoUs were signed of which 838 projects have started. The government had said that the investment was of Rs 8 lakh crore. But in reality it was only Rs  6,000 crore,” Mr Chavan told reporters.

The Congress leader even lashed at the BJP led government for its false claim about employment generation. “The government had said that more than 30 lakh youths will get jobs but only 42,000 employment was created. The CM is lying that Rs 5 lakh crore has been invested,” he said.

“The government should declare all the information regarding the investment on their website. How much investment came, in which areas the industries have come and which companies have invested,” he added.

“As per the Crystil report, if Maharashtra has to touch growth rate of 7.3 then it will have to wait at least till 2023 with the current speed. In order to achieve the claims of the economy, the growth rate should be 2.5 times more,” he said. Mr Chavan was referring to the state government’s claims to achieve one trillion dollar economy. He also reminded how International financial centre was shifted to Gujarat from Mumbai.
