Girder collapsed at GMLR, damages cop’s bike, pvt car

Mumbai: On Saturday evening, a girder collapsed on the road when a container dashed it, causing chaos Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR). A girder is an iron structure to support the construction of a flyover. The incident occurred at around 4 pm at Lotus junction of Shivajinagar, no casualty has been reported. The driver of the container was taken into custody by the Deonar police.

According to the locals, the girder slipped from the main pillar of the under construction bridge at GMLR and collapsed on a marshal bike of city police and one private car is reported to be damaged. “The container dashed against the girder causing it to fall on a private Ertiga car and a traffic motor cycle. A case under Indian Penal Code sections 279, 427 and section 3 of Damage to Public Property Act has been registered against the driver of the container at Deonar police station. He has been taken into custody,” said a civic official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster cell. The container was travelling towards the Chheda Nagar.

The incident caused traffic chaos at Shivaji Nagar signal in Govandi, motorists faced heavy traffic jam on both sides.
