Mumbai: The cyber police have registered a complaint after a city-based youth Omkar Joshi (27) complained on Twitter about being harassed by an alleged bank employee who kept asking him for his Aadhaar card and bank details.

According to police sources, Mr Joshi said that he received a call from the number 9582129938 saying that they were calling on behalf of a bank with whom he holds an account, and the call was regarding a reminder to link the Aadhaar card to the bank account. When Omkar said that he had already done so a month ago, they started asking for his Aadhaar number to verify the linking process. Upon much resistance from Omkar’s side, he threatened to report the matter to the police, after which the accused started hurling abuses.

After this incident, Mr Joshi took to the Twitter and tagged Mumbai police, who then forwarded his complaint to the cyber police station. When this paper contacted the police station, they said the matter will be investigated.

Every day, there are thousands of people who get such fraud calls. Bijoy Venkat, an MBA student said, “Recently I got a call where the person identified himself as a representative from a leading bank. He was talking about some credit card which I don’t even use.”
