Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state president Jayant Patil has directed the party workers to be ready for the  upcoming Lok Sabha elections as NCP has a feeling that the BJP-led government is in for a debacle in the general elections, and hence, may go for an early election. If elections are held in November, party workers should be ready to fight the election, Mr Patil told them.

While addressing a gathering in Gondia, Mr Patil said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised development in 2014 but his government forgot all poll promises. Mr Patil also held Mr Modi and his government responsible for the resignation of BJP MP Nana Patole.

NCP state president is on tour in the Vidarbha region from August 16. In the past four days, he has covered Wardha, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandara and Chandrapur.

He also held a dialogue with professionals including doctors, lawyers and social workers in these districts.

“The promises, which were made to farmers, poor people and citizens by the government, have not been fulfilled. Therefore, Nana Patole resigned,” alleged Mr Patil. He told reporters in Gondia that the farmers were not being given minimum support prices for crops and that illegal liquor supplies had not been stopped.

He claimed that the government had not come up with any new scheme in the past four years. He also said that the country was witnessing inflation due to demonetisation.

“This BJP-led state government made several promises but they did not fulfill the same. Owing to this, all communities are feeling discontented. Hence, the Maratha Samaj and Dhangar Samaj are aggressively demanding reservation. This is because of the government’s wrong move,” the NCP state president said.
