Nagpur: Taking serious cognisance of the case of a physically abused baby in a Kharghar creche, Minister of State for Urban Development Department, Ranjit Patil, on Saturday, suspended the assistant police inspector (API) of the Kharghar police station for delaying the registration of the complaint filed by the parents.

He even assured the legislative assembly that the government would soon move guidelines in this regard for creches. The action from the government has come after a 10-month-old girl was beaten up and kicked at a creche in Kharghar by a caretaker last month.

“The investigation officer was immediately withdrawn from the case. The API will be suspended. It is true that the official registered the complaint late. In the evening, the parents took the child to a hospital, as she was not well. The hospital suspected fracture. The complaint should have been registered immediately on the same day,” said Mr Patil.

NCP leader, Jayant Patil, had alleged that the API delayed filing the complaint made by the parents. “The API did not register their complaint. The parents went to the police station at around 9.30 am and the complaint got registered in the late evening. Why was the police defending the accused for so long? The officer delayed the FIR by 12 hours. Strong action should be taken against him,” he said.

BJP MLA, Prashant Thakur, said that installation of CCTV cameras should be mandatory in creches, and the staff must be trained and their character certificates must be produced.

In the reply, Ranjit Patil said that they would soon issue guidelines for creches.
