Mumbai: In a bid to curb theft onboard long-distance trains plying across the country, the Indian Railway has planned to introduce an app using which, aggrieved passengers can report theft, details of which will be shared with the TTE (travelling ticket examiner) and the Government Railway Police (GRP). This will help them take immediate steps to catch the thieves.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) director general Arun Kumar said that live tracking of the complaint will be done via this app. “We are on process to curbing the loopholes in the detection of crime,” he said.

About a query about low detection rate, Mr Kumar said, “We are going to introduce the app which will be used by the RPF and GRP together. The passenger as well as TTE can download the app and with its help, the case will be registered at the time of commission of the crime. The case will be sent to the concerned security agencies (RPF and GRP). We are going to hold a conference of the GRP and we are hopeful that all states’ GRP and RPF will agree on that particular app which will help a lot (to resolve the case).”

“With the help of the TTE’s information about the passenger’s ticket, we will try to resolve the case. The statement of the TTE will also be quickly recorded in the app if needed pertaining to the case like who is sitting nearby the incident of the crime,” he said.

Mr Kumar is in the city for the past two days to review security issues in CR, Western Railway and Konkan Railway.
