40-year-old journalist dies in road accident

The incident took place at around 12.50am in Subhash Nagar 's new mill road when Tripathi was travelling in a rickshaw.

Mumbai: A 40-year-old television journalist died in a road accident after his auto rickshaw collided into another one in Kurla on Wednesday night. The deceased, Prashant Tripathi, had returned from Uttar Pradesh after performing the last rites of his grandfather there and was headed to Kurla from Bandra when the incident happened.

The incident took place at around 12.50am in Subhash Nagar 's new mill road when Tripathi was travelling in a rickshaw. The driver Sikandar Momin was riding it towards Kurla when another rickshaw coming from opposite direction MH02-CP-2006 rammed into it.

The police have arrested accused Kasam Mukhtar Shaikh, 26, for rash and negligent driving. The incident left Tripathi and Momin previously injured.

"The rickshaw in which victim was travelling went turtle leading to massive injuries. Tripathi died on the spot and was rushed to nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Tripathi has worked in several news channels in Mumbai and is survived by his family. The police have informed his family about the incident and they have left from Pratapgarh in UP to reach Mumbai.
