Alert rail staff saves girl at Lonavla

The 20-yr-old girl tried to get off the running train on Lonavla station and almost came under the wheels of the Koyna Express train.

Mumbai: Arun Kumar Nigam, (57) assistant security commissioner, finished off his duties on Sunday at 11:39 am and was chatting with his colleagues on Lonavla’s platform number 2 when his split-second decision to grab a 20-year-old girl, who about to fall from the train, saved her life. And the heroic act was captured on a CCTV camera on the platform.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed that it was a miraculous escape for Ansari Kushbhunisha S, a student of Vidya Prasarni Sabha College of Arts Science and commerce, Lonavala.

In the CCTV footage, it can be seen that Ms Khushbhunisha S was confused as she attempted to get down from the running train in the opposite direction. While alighting the train, she lost her balance. The passenger inside the train held the train held her hand as she was about to fall.

Mr Nigam who had finished off his duties and changed into his plain clothes to head back to Mumbai heard a commotion behind him. He said, “I heard screams behind me, when I turned around I saw a girl holding on to someone on the train.”

He further added, “I immediately reacted by reaching out and caught hold of her hair, and told the people who had held on to her in the train to let go.”
