Mumbai: The Shiv Sena is likely to discuss the issue of forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the national executive meeting, which will be held on January 21 and 22.

The BJP had broken the 25-year-old alliance with Shiv Sena at the time of the legislative assembly elections in 2014.

Though Shiv Sena has been extending support to the BJP-led Devendra Fadnavis government, one can always notice the tension brewing in between these saffron allies in the past three years. They seem to fight each other in the civic corporation and other local body elections as well.

According to sources, though the BJP and Shiv Sena have already started preparing for the 2019 elections considering no alliance, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will take call on the same after hearing the opinions of the party leaders in the national executive meeting about the alliance.

Mr Thackeray has commented on many occasions that Sena has wasted 25 years in being in alliance with the BJP, hindering their expansion in other states. Sena has presence in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat and a few other states, apart from Maharashtra. Sena expects a few seats in other states in exchange of being in alliance with the BJP. However, the latter doesn’t seem to have any such plans.

The BJP has become very strong in the state and results of local bodies elections have already proved it. The BJP is trying to damage the Shiv Sena and according to the sources, there is a feeling in the Shiv Sena that the party will grow if they will fight independently. So, Thackeray will discuss the issue about the alliance with the leaders and take the decision, a senior Shiv Sena leader told The Asian Age.
