MUMBAI: Law aspirants seeking admissions to the three-year programme in city law colleges have been left in a lurch with both colleges and the state common entrance test (CET) cell refusing to give them any assurance about their admissions.

Even after having their names appear in the first merit list on September 4, some students’ admissions are in limbo as they made incorrect entries while filling forms on the admission portal. The CET cell has now handed over the responsibility of admissions to colleges. On their part, colleges have asked students to give an undertaking to the effect that they won’t be responsible if anything happens to admissions in the future.

A law student said, “I took admission in the Government Law College at Churchgate but during the admission, they asked us students to give an undertaking saying that colleges won’t be responsible if the CET decides to make our admission status ineligible in future.” The student said close to 60 students were stuck in a similar situation.

Technically, students get admission in law colleges on the basis of the points they score in their CET exams. However, due to mistakes made by students in the admission form while mentioning marks scored at the university level, CET put their admissions on hold for a week. Finally, last week, the CET told the colleges to look after admissions.

An official from the state CET told this newspaper, “The students who got stuck in this confusion have passed from the University of Mumbai (MU) which follows the credit-based grading system (CBGS) unlike every other university or college. The brochure of admission clearly mentioned about how the students should calculate the CBGS marks and fill the form accordingly but they got confused because of which their admission forms are stuck.”
