Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) would be developing all 52 elevated Metro stations on Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2A, DN Nagar to Mandale Metro-2B and Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East) Metro-7 corridors under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green MRTS rating.

This means that all 52 stations on the three Metro corridors would receive “green certification” on completion. The IGBC in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has issued a certificate to the effect.

Under this initiative, the MMRDA proposes to undergo several changes at stations like 100 per cent LED-based smart lighting, optimising A/C units by using energy efficient systems, natural light for stations and depot lighting, water harvesting, usage of solar energy etc. “The objective of the IGBC Green MRTS Rating is to ensure environmental sustainability, while enhancing commuter experience," said an MMRDA official.

The rating system is a tool to enable new Rail-based MRTS to apply green concepts during design and construction, so as to further reduce environmental impacts that are measurable. The overarching objective of IGBC Green MRTS Rating is to ensure environmental sustainability, while enhancing commuter experience.

Meanwhile, in order to avoid congestion like Metro one (Versova-Ghatkopar), the MMRDA has decided to double the entry and exit points at upcoming metro stations so that the crowds get dispersed easily and do not cause a jam on platforms and inside stations.
