Mumbai: No blood was available on Thursday at civic-run KEM Hospital and several patients’ kin struggled to procure it. Vikram Singh, the kin of a patient, said that his relative was scheduled for a neck operation and needed four units of B-positive blood however the KEM blood bank said there was no blood available.

Mr Singh told The Asian Age, “My paternal aunt Rajkumari Pasvan (56) has a cyst in her neck and requires four units of blood for her operation which is scheduled during the next two days.”

“My blood group does not match with hers and I approached KEM’s blood bank however I was told that there were no units of blood available. There are many people like me struggling to arrange for blood,” he said.

Mr Singh informed that when he approached the blood bank for blood, there was a notice put up outside which listed the names and coordinates of 24 hospitals and blood could be procured only from any of these.
