Mumbai: The meeting of Shiv Sena MPs called by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray at his residence was called off abruptly on Sunday. The reason behind the move was not known.

Mr Thackeray, who is also the Shiv Sena chief, had summoned a meeting of his party MPs at Matoshree on 12 noon. All Sena MPs were directed to attend the meeting. However, the meeting was cancelled on Sunday morning.

After snapping its ties with the BJP, the Sena had also walked out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by asking its lone minister Arvind Sawant to resign from Union Cabinet.

As the Sena is no longer in the NDA, the meeting was supposed to discuss issues like about party’s role in the proceedings and its stand on various bills to be presented in the Parliament etc.

According to party sources, the meeting had assumed great significance in the wake of Sena’s changed stand on various issues in recent days. The party leadership had planned to guide the MPs over various issues of national importance.

However, with the meeting now cancelled, the uncertainty still prevails over Sena’s next move in the Parliament.

Ever since Sena’s alliance with the BJP was broken, the relations between two parties have turned sour. Though Mr Thackeray had gone to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Pune, he did not spend much time there and came back immediately.
