Man arrested for raping daughter, 13, over 3 years

Pune: The police has arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter on her complaint. The girl’s mother had died seven year ago and since then she had been staying with her father.

Rajkumar Waghch-oure, police inspector, Bharati Vidyapith, Pune, said, “The girl lodged the FIR against her father with the help of her neighbours yesterday. She is a Class 7 student and stays with her father in Katraj. As per complaint, her father —who was in charge of the security of a local housing society — has been raping her over the last three years. He would often threaten to kill her if she revealed his activities.”

He added, “Last week, the girl shared her ordeal with a domestic worker who works in her housing society. The worker in turn shared this problem with residents of the society. The neighbours first counselled the girl and then she decided to go to the police. Later, she approached the police and lodged an FIR against her father under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code 376 for rape, 323 for intimidation and relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO).”

He said, “We have taken the girl to Sassoon General Hospital for medical tests and later she will be sent to the Rescue Home for Women. Meanwhile, we have arrested the accused. 

The Pune sessions court has remanded him in police custody for seven days.
