MUMBAI: On Tuesday, hundreds of students gathered outside the deputy director of education (DyDe) office, as they could not get a seat in any colleges for the first year junior college (FYJC) admissions.

Students are concerned about their future as their names have not been listed in any colleges. “All my friends have got a seat and even started going to colleges but I am still waiting for my name to show up in the list. I am really scared that I’ll lose my academic year, as I am not getting any seat even after four rounds,” said Shrikanth Gangurde, a student from Thane-area who came all the way to DyDe office. Rashi Chowdhary, another student said, “I scored 78.03 per cent while many of my friends have scored less than 70 per cent and yet I did not get any seat but they did.”

The students had gathered at the office to know the reason of their name not being listed. “I wanted to know if the mistake is on our part or it is because of the system. The entire online admission is becoming a headache for us as everyday. My daughter is struggling to get a single seat even if it is a not-so-popular college because it is better than losing an academic year,” said a parent who came with his daughter at the office.

According to the DyDe officials, many seats are being blocked due to mistakes made by the students while filling the form or several seats are not traceable, as the students who are allotted seats have not confirmed it. Many of the cases also include multiple forms in more than two colleges and more than one stream under one name of the student.
