1,300 beds reserved in civic hospitals
The hospitals have been instructed to keep adequate diagnostic kits for conducting tests for dengue, malaria, chikungunya and leptospirosis.
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reserved around 1,300 beds across the city’s major civic hospitals for treating patients afflicted with monsoon-related ailments.
The hospitals have been instructed to keep adequate diagnostic kits for conducting tests for dengue, malaria, chikungunya and leptospirosis.
BMC Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC), Idzes Kundan, stated, “We have told civic hospitals to ensure that there is adequate staff, beds and blood platelets ready to tackle the bi-annual cycle of dengue and malaria in the city. The health department has also directed their labs to be fully prepared with reagents and chemicals.”
During monsoons, cases of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and other monsoon-related illnesses like viral fever, common flu, eye and stomach infections are reported from hospitals across the city.
Talking to The Asian Age, AMC Kundan said, “Last year we witnessed deaths due to monsoon-related ailments, so this year we are being cautious.
“The BMC has started special services such as ‘SMS blasting’ which will notify Mumbaikars about flooded areas in the city. We have also started with pre-post fumigation on mosquito breeding spots,” she said.
