In-laws kill woman, claim she hung self
The victim, Kakoli Mondal, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Satjelia village on Sunday afternoon.
Kolkata: A homemaker was murdered in the Sundarbans of South 24 Parganas for dowry. The victim, Kakoli Mondal, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Satjelia village on Sunday afternoon.
According to her in-laws, she committed suicide by hanging herself. But her brother Babusona alleged that Kakoli was beaten up and was then hanged by her in-laws after they failed to get dowry from her. He also said that Kakoli died at around 4 pm on Sunday but her death was kept a secret to her parental family members till Monday morning.
The body was sent for post-mortem. Kakoli got married to Arun Mondal in 2008. Since then, she was subjected to torture by her in-laws for dowry money, Babusona claimed adding that she gave birth to a child with physical disabilities due to the torture. He said, “During her marriage her in-laws demanded jewellery and a huge amount of money, which we failed to give.” The body was sent for psot-mortem. The police later arrested Arun on charges of murder.
