BJP chief Ghosh calls Mamata accidental CM

Kolkata: A day after chief minister Mamata Banerjee called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “disastrous PM” and sought a sequel on him, the BJP shot back calling her an “accidental chief minister”.

Lashing out at her, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Saturday described the Trinamul Congress supremo “the accidental chief minister”, saying that the saffron party would also make a film on her. “We are planning to make a film — The Accidental Chief Minister — because it will be required after 2019 and it will continue till 2021. On the basis of what Ms Banerjee is claiming of distortion in The Accidental Prime Minister?” he said.

“Sequels have been made on many leaders earlier. Controversy marked even on a film on Netaji. It is natural that controversy will unfold over a film on a PM who had been in the centre of controversy from the beginning. The controversy is raging more since our people have been associated with the film,” Mr Ghosh observed while talking to the media on the sidelines of BJP National Council meet in New Delhi.

Asked who will act in “The Accidental Chief Minister”, he added, “There is no dearth of actors. It is not a question who is close to whom. The focus is on how well one can act. Anupam Kher is an eminent actor and abled film administrator. So the question on his acting is useless. Anyone can dislike him or the events in the film. We are also searching actors. We have many vibrant people who will fit the chief minister’s role.”

On a note of humour the BJP Kharagpur MLA however quipped that he would like to act in “real life” instead of “reel life.” Ms Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamul MP of Diamond Harbour Abhishek Banerjee said, “With three months left for the elections, such films are released for vested political interest. It is unfortunate that Mr Modi now has to think about winning again depending on the popularity of the actors.”

Lashing out at the BJP state panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said, “I may have the right to make a film. But it does not imply I have a licence. A thorough arrangement has been made from the BJP to produce such films. If cinema enters politics, I can not support it.” During the day the screening of The Accidental Prime Minister has been stopped in at least three more cinema halls with the police being posted outside. On Friday the screening was stopped at two halls following a protest by the Congress.
