Nagraj: Indian Army always well prepared

Kolkata: Major-general R. Nagraj, MGGS of the Eastern Command headquarters on Sunday affirmed the Indian Army’s capability in tackling threat from China. He was speaking at a press meet at the Fort William, the headquarters of the Eastern Command on the Vijay Divas celebrations to mark the birth of Bangladesh on December 16 in 1971 with the end of the Liberation War against Pakistan.

Asked on the Chinese threat along the border in the Northeast, Maj. Gen. Nagraj said, “Indian Army is a strong and capable force. It can protect India’s sovereignity. I do not look at China in the persepective of vulnerability. It is the security responsibility of our country when it comes to standing against others, including China. India has always believed in securing its sovereignity.”

He elaborated, “The Army is well prepared. The armed forces will continue to do what they are required to do. India has never any intention to go beyond its border. India is an aspiring economoc power.” Maj. Gen. Nagraj informed that a Bangladeshi delegation including the Mukti Joddhas would take part in the Vijay Divas celebrations which will be held from December 14-16 in the city.

“There will be four-five MPs in the Bangladeshi delegation apart from six serving officers from the army, navy and air force. From the Indian side, a delegation of 30 war veterans would visit Dhaka to attend the celebrations there at the same time,” he added. The Indian delegation which includes Wing Commander (retired) DJS Kler of the Indian Air Force will have four serving officers from army, navy and air force also alongwith them, Maj. Gen. Nagraj added.
