Kolkata: Parents of the minor girl Kuheli Chakraborty who died due to alleged medical negligence at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, have refused to accept the compensation of Rs 30 lakh, which the West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission directed the private hospital to pay to her family.

Abhijit Chakraborty, Kuheli’s father, said, “We will not accept the money from Apollo. We want punishment of the doctor who treated our daughter leading her to death. If Apollo still maintains that there was no medical negligence in Kuheli’s death, why has it agreed to offer the money as compensation to us?”

According to him, the private hospital had offered the money as a mark of sympathy, which he said the family did not need. The victim from Joka in Haridevpur died at Apollo on April 19 this year. Her family lodged a complaint with the newly set up health panel, which heard the versions of the hospital and her family.

On June 23, it passed an order directing Apollo to pay Rs 30 lakh as compensation to Kuheli’s family. The private hospital however sent a letter recently to Kuheli’s family claiming that there was no negligence in her death. This has left Kuheli’s parents fuming.
