Kolkata: Congress MLA of Durgapur, Bishwanath Parial’s presence at the administrative meeting of chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Durgapur in West Burdwan on Monday has triggered speculation about him joining the Trinamul Congress.

He was seen sitting in the front row at Srijani auditorium alongwith the Trinamul leaders when Ms Banerjee was addressing the meeting. Mr Parial quit the ruling party before the Assembly Elections in 2016 and joined the Congress to contest the polls.

Surprising all, Mr Parial won by beating his mentor Apu Mukherjee of the Trinamul. He however was seen with the Trinamul leaders in the district during the municipal elections in Durgapur. His wife and some of his followers were fielded by the Trinamul to contest the polls.

The Congress MLA became one of the familiar faces in the Trinamul meetings in the town, according to sources. Three months ago, the Trinamul supremo addressed a meeting at Raghunathpur of Kanksa.
