State opposes bail plea of arrested left activists

Pune: The Supreme Court has accepted that prima facie there is evidence of links between the arrested left-wing activists and the banned Maoist party. Public prosecutor Ujjawala Pawar opposed the bail plea of the activists saying that prima face, there were links between them and the banned party which is why further investigation was necessary.

Shoma Sen and Surendra Gadling, arrested by the Pune police for their alleged links with the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), have applied for bail. Opposing the bail, advocate Pawar at the special court of Judge K.D. Vadane, said that Gadling, in a letter to underground Maoists had written that the oppressor should fall in a pool of blood.

She also pointed out the defence lawyer’s accusation that the SC had said that the FIR lodged on January 8 accusing the organisers of the Elgar Parishad, was a cross FIR to a earlier FIR lodged against right-wing activists Sambhaji Bhide and Milind Ekbote.

 “The police is probing the FIR lodged on January 8 about the organisers of the Elgar Parishad where speeches were made inciting people to dethrone the government. And the FIR against right-wing activists is to different and independent FIRs,” said advocate Pawar.

She said the conspiracy was to achieve a common goal where A was given one task, B another and so on, and the members were not necessarily aware of each other’s task but were working for a common goal nevertheless.
