Pune: Rohit Tilak (38), the national coordinator of Youth Congress and the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak has been booked by the Pune police for allegedly subjecting a 41-year-old woman to rape, unnatural sex and intimidation. The first information report (FIR) was registered on a complaint by the woman who alleged she knows Tilak since March 2015 and was raped by him multiple times, at multiple places, on assurances that he loved her and intended to marry her, the police said. The woman also alleged that Tilak took Rs 10 lakh from her saying he was in need of money.

Tilak is a resident of Kesariwada, Pune. The FIR lodged at Vishrambag police station says Tilak raped, had unnatural sex with the woman on the pretext of marriage and when the complainant asked about marriage, he physically abused her. Despite repeated attempts, Tilak’s mobile was switched off. However, Tilak’s family and close associates said that their lawyer has asked them to refrain from talking to the media.

According to sources, Tilak and the woman met in a social programme in March 2015 and later Tilak sent her a friend request on social media. Since then they had been meeting each other at various places. According to the FIR, when the complainant started to ask Tilak to marry her, he turned her down.
