Locals douse pyre sensing man’s role in wife’s death

New Delhi: In a bizzare incident, Narela locals on Monday allegedly doused the fire emanating from the pyre of a woman suspected to be murdered by her husband and informed the police.

Soon, a police team reached the spot and sent the woman’s half-burnt body for post mortem.

Suspecting his involvement in the incident, the police has taken the husband, Kanhaiya, into custody and informed the deceased’s family.

The incident took place at 10am when locals made a call to the PCR when the husband set fire to the woman’s pyre at Narela pocket B crematorium.

The residents grew suspicious upon seeing the husband carrying out the last rites in haste. The police has identified the deceased as Neelam, 21.

She was staying with her husband, Kanhaiya and son. He worked at a factory in Narela, while Neelam hailed from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh

The police said when they reached the spot, they found Kanhaiya and a few others standing next to the pyre.

When questioned, he told the police his wife had ended her life committing suicide on Sunday.

During the preliminary probe, the police learnt he had a scuffle with his wife. On Monday, the locals were shocked to hear that Neelam was no more and they saw Kanhaiya rushing to the cremation ground. he was accompanied by his friends. The locals reached the spot and doused the pyre.

A case has been registered by the police against the accused.
