New Delhi: In a bid to identify motorists obstructing their movement while responding to emergency calls and fine errant vehicle owners, the Delhi government has decided to install CCTV cameras in fire tenders. All fire tenders will also be equipped with global positioning system (GPS) device to monitor their movement.

“The government has decided to install CCTV cameras on the front of fire tenders to identify the vehicles which obstruct their movement on city roads,” Delhi home minister Satyendar Jain said.

“After identifying such errant vehicles through their number plates, the government will issue challans to the vehicle owners for violating the rules,” he said.

Mr Jain said that modern protective gear and robotic water towers will be procured for the Delhi Fire Services. Thereafter, fire fighters need not be physically present inside the blazing spot.

“In the first phase, four to five such fire tenders will be procured. Robotic water towers will also help our fire fighters tackle major fire incident,” Mr Jain added.
