Kolkata: A young housewife suffered deep injuries after she fell down from a highrise in Behala under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday morning. The police suspect that Harishma Pandey (25), the injured woman, tried to commit suicide by jumping from the top of the building.

Harishma stays with her husband, Dinesh, who is a chartered accountant, and their two-and-half-year-old son at the third floor of a housing apartment on Satyen Roy Road. After getting up in the morning, Dinesh could not find his wife in the flat and started looking for her.

Finding the flat’s door open he rushed to the terrace and found Harishma lying in a pool of blood on the basement. Harishma was rushed to a private hospital in Alipore where she has been undergoing treatment. Preliminary investigations revealed that Harishma went to the roof at around 3 am and jumped off. What confused the police was that despite jumping off the roof-top she survived miraculously. After talking to her neighbours, the police assumed that Harishma remained lying for a long time on the basement. While falling down she, however, hit the wire in the railing on the boundary wall of the housing complex, before getting deflected inside and falling on the basement.

One of the residents of the apartment, Reshmi Pathak, said, “There has been a domestic discord in their family. Perhaps thats why the woman tried to kill herself.”
