New Delhi: Delhi University’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Educ-ation Board (NCWEB), which offers courses exclusively for women, is all set to add 468 more seats to its existing 11,732 seats from the upcoming academic session.

The increased seats will be offered at a new centre being started at Deen Dyal Upadhyay (DDU) College. The NCWEB already has 25 DU colleges as its centres and will now admit a total of 12,200 students this year in 26 centres.

The board admits female students only from NCT of Delhi and conducts classes on Sundays for its two undergraduate BA and B.Com. programmes. Out of 12,200 seats, 7,400 seats will be for BA programme and 4800 seats for B.Com.

The board will begin admissions through online mode along with the regular college admissions from mid-April.

“We are starting a new NCWEB centre with a total of 468 seats. The option of choosing NCWEB will be included in the centralised application form only. Last year, even DDU college had to get added with the other 12 new centres but due to some issues it was awaiting approval,” Dr Anju Gupta, director of NCWEB, said.

For the first time, PG students of the NCWEB even held a counselling session for UG students for PG admission entrance in all its centres.

“NCWEB is very much pro-students. Not only the numbers of students are increasing, dropout rate has gone down to zero from NCWEB. There are many girls who are first generation learners and we make an effort not only to educate them but also make them employable by imparting various skills,” Ms Gupta added.

Non-Collegiate students are, however, not allowed to pursue any other full-time degree course.
