New Delhi: A nine-year-old girl allegedly attempted suicide at her home in northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar area, police said on Saturday.

The reason is not yet known but it is suspected that she might be scared of failing in examinations, they said.

The incident happened on March 21 when the girl and her brother were alone at their home.

According to police, on the pretext of changing clothes, the girl asked her 10-year-old brother to step out of the room and then she allegedly tried to hang herself.

When she did not come out for a long time, her brother raised an alarm and managed to alert his family and neighbours, police said.

The girl was rushed a hospital where she is recuperating.
