New Delhi: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra’ in the capital with an aim to impart skill development training to marginalised youth and women to make them self-reliant.
A budget provision of as much as Rs 12,000 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. Mr Singh inaugurated the country’s first Kaushal Kendra on Mandir Marg in the city on Monday.
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra was set up by New Delhi Municipal Council in association with National Skill Development Corporation of the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.
Mr Singh said, “Development plays a significant role in one’s personality development and social behaviour. India is a young country in the world, with 65 per cent of the population below the age of 35 years.
“If the youth and women are trained in developing latest skills, the economic growth of the country will receive a boost,” Mr Singh said. Highlighting that as many as one crore youth would be imparted high quality training by the end of 2020 under the Skill India Mission, he said the expenditure incurred in this regard would be borne by the government.
Union minister of petroleum and natural gas, skill development and entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said that the ministry would set up a centre of excellence for training of electrical and solar energy appliances in the city area, provided the land is made available by the municipal council for the purpose.
Here, Mr Pradhan appreciated the efforts made by the NDMC for imparting training in skills to marginalised youth.
Underlining the importance of bio-fuel from methanisation plant, the Union minister said that his ministry was keen to set up a methanisation plant in the New Delhi area in order to generate methane gas from the garbage or solid waste being generated here.
Local Member of Parliament Meenakashi Lekhi said that the skill development not only helps develop the skills of the marginalised youth and women, but also help s augment their income and develops their overall personality.
