New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman received injuries to her limbs and neck in an attempt to escape from a flat after allegedly being gangraped by two men in West Delhi’s Dwarka on Wednesday night.

The victim received the injuries as she fell from a height of around 15 feet into a shaft in the building. One of the accused men, who allegedly tried to prevent her from escaping, also fell into the same shaft, receiving injuries to his legs in the process.

Both the persons have been hospitalised, but the injuries are not life-threatening. The police said they have arrested the two accused men, identified as Sunil and Himmat, both in their late 20s. The alleged victim is a resident of Gurgaon. She was allegedly waiting at a bus stop when the two men approached her in a car. The accused men, who have claimed innocence, have told the police that they were known to the woman. As soon as the victim entered the car, the men allegedly drugged her before driving her to a flat in in Dwarka. The two men then took turns to rape the woman even as she remained unconscious, the victim alleged.

“Sometime after the incident, Sunil left the flat by locking the victim and Himmat inside,” said Surender Kumar, DCP (Southwest).

The victim made her escape attempt around 9.30 pm. She told the police that when she regained consciousness, she found the flat locked from outside after which she began looking for an alternate escape route.

It was then that she found an exit at the rear end of the flat. However, as she tried to escape, she fell through the shaft, landing on the floor 15-feet below. “Himmat was running after the woman and he too fell after her,” said the DCP.

Locals heart the sound of the fall and called the police, believing the two persons were thieves. However, when a police team arrived at the scene, the woman told them she was trying to escape from the flat after being gangraped.

The two were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital. Himmat was arrested from the hospital itself. His interrogation revealed the identity of the other accused and he too was nabbed subsequently. The police have booked the duo for gangrape, kidnapping and drugging the victim.
