New Delhi: Anticipating by-polls in 20 Assembly seats, after the Election Commission’s (EC) recommendation to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs for holding offices of profit, the Delhi BJP has decided to hit the road against the ongoing sealing drive on the directions of the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee.

The Delhi BJP core committee met on Friday evening to discuss the sudden political development and decided to undertake massive campaigning against the sealing. However, it failed to decide the party’s stand on the disqualification of the 20 AAP MLAs.

According to sources in the party, Delhi BJP core committee, on late Friday evening, met under the leadership of state president Manoj Tiwari to brainstorm on the issue of the sealing drive and the disqualification of the AAP MLAs.

A member of the core committee told this newspaper that during the meeting it was decided the party would take firm stand against the ongoing sealing drive and make people aware that the BJP ruled municipal corporation was not behind the drive.

“One member suggested that BJP councillors should hit the roads in their respective wards and explain that the sealing is going on owing to the failure of the AAP government. He also suggested that feedback from people should be taken against the councillors,” he added.

The Delhi BJP core committee, however, failed to make any consensus on the EC recommendation of disqualifying the AAP MLAs. “Everyone has an opinion or two. But we failed to make consensus on what should be our stand. In the present scenario, whatever Mr Tiwari says will be considered as the party’s stand,” he said.

The core committee also discussed about the party’s preparations for the bypoll. It decided that booth level workers should start visiting voters in these 20 constituencies. “We found that the party is ready for the polls any day,” said another member.
